Economic mobility and opportunity (EMO) refers to the ability of individuals or groups of people to change their economic status over time—in other words, to pursue the American Dream. In this moment, when many minority entrepreneurs are losing faith in the American Dream, Interise is dedicated to increasing EMO for entrepreneurs, their employees, and their communities.

As a small business owner, you understand that a strong workplace culture leads to greater business success. That’s because when employees are satisfied with their jobs, they develop more experience and skills, are better engaged, and tend to stay—translating into a more efficient, productive workforce that ultimately benefits the bottom line. To help you cultivate dynamic, engaged personnel, Interise is pleased to offer the Small Business STRONGER for Economic Mobility program.

- BIPOC business owners (51% or more) with businesses located in low to moderate-income communities (as determined by Census Tract income designations).

- Annual revenue threshold of at least $150,000 *

- Minimum of three additional staff members on payroll. 1099s can be counted as employees

- Minimum of three years in business

- Ready to empower yourself and your employees

Meet the Instructor

Dr. Barbara Baggerly-Hinojosa, Ph.D., is the CEO of Leadership Empowerment Group. In this capacity, she serves the business, education, government, and healthcare industries with training and coaching on leadership development, conflict management, team building, communication, and strategic planning. In
addition, Dr. Baggerly-Hinojosa is the owner of Mid Valley Publishing and is a professor of leadership studies at Our Lady of the Lake University in the School of Business and Leadership Studies where she teaches PhD and courses in leadership theory, conflict management, business strategy, and oral communications.

She has published three books on leadership: Are You a Ten? The Ten Characteristics of a Servant Leader, The Leadership Collection, and Eres un Diez? and has been a contributing author in various leadership textbooks and has published articles in numerous academic journals. In 2017, Dr. Baggerly-Hinojosa was named Woman of the Year by the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce and has been named 2018 RGV Business Woman of the Year by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Recently, Dr. Baggerly-Hinojosa was awarded the Governor’s Small Business Award and named one of the Women of Distinction from the Texas Mexican American Chambers of Commerce in 2019.
